Home wallbox: what does a clean install cost?

Standard 7 kW single-phase wallbox installed by a certified electrician, parking spot within 10 metres of the consumer unit, no panel upgrade. The numbers below are the realistic mid-range; complex installs (long cable runs, three-phase, isolator, smart load balancer) push you toward the top end.

Country incentive schemes (grants, tax credits, employer salary sacrifice) can cut these numbers by 30 to 100%. The detailed per-country calculator with live incentive flags ships once we finish auditing the government sources.

In the meantime, the charging cost calculator covers the energy bill once your wallbox is in.

FAQ

Home wallbox install, answered

What does a home EV charger installation actually include?
A standard job covers the wallbox itself, mounting it on a wall or post near your parking spot, running cable from your consumer unit, fitting the protective devices required by local wiring rules, and testing and certifying the work. The ranges above assume a parking spot within about 10 metres of the board and no main panel upgrade.
What pushes the install cost toward the high end?
Distance is the big one. A long cable run from the board to the parking spot, surface trunking or trenching, drilling through walls, or routing across a driveway all add labour. Three-phase supply, a dedicated isolator, a load balancer to protect your main fuse, or a consumer unit that needs upgrading first all add cost on top.
Can grants or incentives lower the price?
Often, yes. Many countries run grants, tax credits or employer salary-sacrifice schemes for home charger installs, and some cap the eligible cost or limit it to flats and rental homes. These can cut the figure by anywhere from a third to the full amount. Check your national scheme before booking, since terms and eligibility change regularly.
Do I need a 7 kW charger or something faster?
For almost all homes, a 7 kW single-phase wallbox is the right call. It adds roughly 30 to 45 km of range per hour, enough to refill overnight for any normal daily mileage. Faster 11 kW or 22 kW units need three-phase power, which most homes do not have, and rarely pay back for typical overnight charging.
