EV charging in Poland

Poland is expanding its charging network from a relatively low base for its size. We index around 490 sites. Type 2 covers AC and CCS covers DC, the standard European pairing. Coverage is spread across the larger cities, and the motorways linking them are gaining fast charging, helped by the fuel retailer Orlen entering the space.

Greenway is the most prominent dedicated fast-charging operator in our data, and Orlen Charge, the charging arm of the national fuel company, has been adding high-power CCS at its forecourts, which is a natural fit for intercity travel. Tesla Superchargers and business-owned points fill in the rest. Warsaw leads coverage, with Katowice, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Krakow following.

A network catching up

Poland has fewer chargers relative to its population and area than the western EU, a gap it is closing with EU funds and commercial investment. The main motorway corridors and larger cities are increasingly covered, while rural areas remain thinner. As a large country, it rewards planning on cross-country trips, so map your DC stops on the trunk routes and keep a buffer once you leave the cities.

Access and cost

Access is by app and RFID, with roaming spreading across operators and into neighbouring countries. Public DC is billed per kWh. Polish electricity is mid-range for the region and still relatively coal-heavy, though that is shifting, so home charging is economical even if not the greenest. As the rollout continues, both coverage and pricing competition are improving along the main routes.

FAQ
Is Poland good for EV road trips yet?
Increasingly, on the main motorway corridors and between the larger cities, as Greenway and Orlen Charge add high-power CCS. Orlen placing fast chargers at its fuel forecourts suits intercity travel well. The weaker areas are rural routes, where coverage is thinner. As a large country, Poland rewards planning, so map your DC stops on the trunk routes and keep a buffer.
Which networks operate in Poland?
Greenway is the most prominent dedicated fast-charging operator in our index, with Orlen Charge, the national fuel company’s charging arm, expanding high-power CCS at forecourts. Tesla Superchargers and business-owned points add coverage. Warsaw leads, followed by Katowice, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Krakow. Access is by app and RFID, with roaming spreading across operators and borders.
Is Polish charging green?
Improving, but not yet among the cleanest. Poland’s grid still leans relatively heavily on coal, though it is shifting toward renewables and gas over time. That means EV charging here is less low-carbon than in hydro or nuclear-heavy countries, even though an EV is still cleaner than a petrol car overall. Home charging remains economical thanks to mid-range electricity prices.
What does charging cost in Poland?
Public DC fast charging is billed per kWh and varies by operator. Polish household electricity is mid-range for the region, so charging at home is the economical default where you have a parking spot with power. Public rapid charging costs more. As the network matures with EU support and commercial investment, pricing competition is improving along the main corridors.
