EV charging in Vietnam

Vietnam's EV story is unusual: it is dominated by one homegrown carmaker, VinFast, which built its own huge charging network, V-Green. International open data captures almost none of it, so we index only a few sites. The real network is large but largely proprietary, built around VinFast's own cars and the company's nationwide rollout.

The tiny indexed count is a data artefact. VinFast, Vietnam's domestic EV maker, rolled out charging aggressively to support its own vehicles, and its V-Green network spans cities, highways and parking facilities across the country. Because this network grew around one manufacturer and does not feed international databases, global maps show almost nothing, even though charging is widely available to VinFast drivers.

A single-brand ecosystem

The defining feature is how brand-centric the network is. VinFast cars and the V-Green network are tightly linked, which gives VinFast owners excellent coverage but leaves drivers of other EVs with a much thinner public option. The connector and access situation reflects this, oriented around VinFast's vehicles. As other brands and operators enter, a more open network may develop, but for now Vietnam is largely a VinFast world.

The practical reality

For a VinFast owner, charging in Vietnam is genuinely well covered, concentrated in the major cities and along the main routes, and expanding fast. For anyone else, public charging is sparse and worth verifying carefully before relying on it. Vietnamese grid electricity is inexpensive, so home charging is economical where available. The honest summary is a large but proprietary network that international maps simply do not see.

FAQ
Why does Vietnam show almost no chargers on global maps?
Because the network is dominated by VinFast's proprietary V-Green system, which does not feed international databases, so global maps capture almost none of it. It is a data artefact. On the ground, V-Green spans cities, highways and parking facilities nationwide, giving VinFast drivers wide coverage. Treat indexed counts as meaningless for Vietnam and rely on VinFast's own tools.
Is charging only for VinFast cars in Vietnam?
Largely, for now. VinFast, the domestic EV maker, built the V-Green network around its own vehicles, so VinFast owners have excellent coverage while drivers of other EVs face a much thinner public option. As other brands and operators enter the market, a more open network may develop, but at present Vietnam is essentially a single-brand charging ecosystem centred on VinFast.
Is the VinFast charging network actually good?
For VinFast owners, yes. The company rolled out V-Green aggressively to support its cars, with coverage concentrated in the major cities and along the main routes and expanding fast. It is one of the more striking examples of a carmaker building its own nationwide charging network. The catch is that the strength is tied to owning a VinFast vehicle.
Is home charging practical in Vietnam?
Where you have a dedicated parking spot, yes, and Vietnamese grid electricity is inexpensive, so it is economical. For VinFast owners, home charging plus the V-Green network covers most needs well. For other EV drivers, home charging is more important precisely because the public network outside VinFast is sparse. Verify public options carefully before relying on them for longer trips.
